Bob retired as the NBA's all-time leading scorer and was named to the 25th, 35th, and 50th All-NBA anniversary teams. All this was almost not to be, however, as Pettit was cut from his freshman and sophomore teams. Was an All-American in '53 and '54 at Louisiana State University and played eleven seasons with the NBA's Hawks, where he was an All-Star each year. Captured the elusive world championship with the Hawks in 1958. Retired second all-time in the NBA in rebounds and still holds the Hawks career record.
