Petkovsek was a first round pick in 1987 of the Texas Rangers. He made his Major League debut on June 8, 1991 with the Rangers, but quickly began to shuffle throughout the Majors. Used primarily as a reliever, Pekovsek spent nine seasons in the big leagues compiling a 46-28 record with a 4.73 ERA.
