Steve Garvey 2002 Upper Deck Sweet Spot Legendary Sweet Spot
Obtained: Via pack in 2002.
Garvey was the rare first round pick who not only fulfilled his potential but also exceeded expectations. Garvey spent fourteen years with the Dodgers before winding down his career with five on the Padres. A career .294 hitter with 2599 hits, Garvey was the NL MVP in 1974, was selected to ten NL All-Star teams, and won four Gold Gloves with the Dodgers from '74 to '77. Garvey's teams were 5-0 in league championship series, however, Garvey could only bag the big one once; 1981, the Dodgers defeated the Yankees.
Garvey now serves as the butt of many a fan's jokes, whether it be the "Steve Garvey is Not My Dad" bumper stickers or the musings and jokes put forth by the Sklaar brothers on Cheap Seats over the Steve Garvey Celebrity Fishing and Bowling specials. However, he is said to take it all in good humor.
