Dean was selected in the third round of the 1986 draft by the Texas Rangers in 1986. Palmer played fourteen seasons with three teams, cracking the AL All-Star team in 1998 as a member of the Kansas City Royals. Injuries forced Palmer to retire after the 2003 season, finishing with 275 homeruns and a .251 batting average.
