Steve was signed as an amateur free agent by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1976 out of American University. He would make his Major League debut at age 27 with the Cleveland Indians in 1984, going 3-11, with a 4.58 ERA splitting time between a starter and a reliever. Farr would remain a reliever for the rest of his career, pitching eleven seasons for four teams, compiling a 48-45 record with a 3.25 ERA.
