Allen was the St. Louis Cardinals' first round draft pick, twenty-first overall, in 1991. He would make his Major League debut on July 8, 1993. He would pitch, first as a starter, then as a reliever, for six teams over eight seasons, including a spot on the 1999 and 2000 Yankees, both World Series champions. He would finish his career with a 51-55 record and a 5.03.
