A franchise that dates back beyond the origins of the National League, going back to 1882 in the American Asscoiation, the Cardinals have seen a miriad of Hall of Fame players step on the field in St. Louis, including Rogers Hornsby, Stan Musial, and Lou Brock, with stop-overs by Modecai Brown, Kid Nichols and Cy Young. The Cardinals were originally known as the Brown Stockings, Browns, and Perfectos before settling on the Cardinals in 1900.
