Fresh out of the Dominican Republic at age 18, Hipolito was signed as an amateur free agent in 1987 by the Kansas City Royals. The Jicome Esperanza native came through the ranks as a starting pitcher before becoming a reliever in the 1994 season. Made his Major League debut at 23 with the Royals in 1992 and retired ten seasons later in 2002 after a one game stint with the Astros. Pichardo finished his Major League Career with a 50-44 record; pretty good considering that he spent most of it with sub-.500 teams.
