Steve Montgomery 1996 Leaf Signature
Obtained: Purchased from eBay; received October, 2006.
Steve Montgomery's biggest claim to fame may be that he was traded one for one for Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley as the Cardinals geared up for their run at the pennant in 1996. Montgomery was a third-round pick of the Cardinals in 1992 and was expected to bolster the bullpen straight out of Pepperdine. Instead, Montgomery didn't reach the Majors until age 25 with the Oakland A's. Has a career 2-8 record with a 4.98 ERA and three saves over four seasons split between Oakland, Philadelphia, and a brief stint in 2000 with San Diego.
