Tony made it to the Major Leagues at age 18 and played in 34 games for the Athletics before being sent back down to the minor leagues. LaRussa would make it back to the Majors five years later in 1968 but would see very limited action in the Majors, playing in bits of six seasons over ten years. LaRussa has made a more significant impact on the game of baseball in coaching. Tony is a three-time AL Manager of the Year and won the NL Manager of the Year in 2002. His teams have won eleven division championships, four pennants and one World Series. Tony graciously signed my 1989 Topps card for me in twenty-six days, even in the midst of a playoff run.
