The phenom from Mansfield, LA would win the Cy Young and AL MVP awards in his first full MLB season in 1971. That year, Vida pitched an amazing 301 strikeouts, lead the league with eight complete game shutouts, and also led the league with a staggering 1.82 ERA. Vida was a six-time All-Star who finished with 206 wins before retiring after the 1986 season with the San Fransisco Giants.
