Bobby pitched sixteen years in the Major Leagues after signing as a free agent at age twenty-two in 1948 with the Philadelphia Athletics. Bobby's career year would come in 1952, winning the AL MVP as a pitcher, posting a 24-7 record with 152 strike outs and a 2.48 ERA. He was an All-Star three times ('51-'52, '57) and would win eight straight Gold Gloves, all as a reliever, ('57-'64) before retiring after the 1964 season at the age of 38 with 119 wins. Bobby signed and returned my card and my protective index card. Thanks Mr. Shantz!
