Dave was drafted in the sixth round of the 1987 draft by the San Diego Padres. He would make his Major League debut, however, in 1990 with the Philadelphia Phillies, after being selected in the Rule V draft. Dave would play for seven teams in twelve seasons, an All-Star in 1992 with the Phillies, finishing his career with a .260 average and 112 homeruns.
