Obtained: Through the mail. Sent: September 6, 2006, c/o Los Angeles Dodgers; Received: September 22, 2006. Sixteen days.
A native Mexican, Fernando Valenzuela had perhaps the hottest start imaginable for a Major League pitcher. In each of his first six seasons, Valenzuela made the NL All-Star squad as a member of the Dodgers and in his rookie season, 1981, he won not only the Rookie of the Year award but also the NL Cy Young. Finished his 17 year career with 173 wins and 2073 Ks, a Gold Glove in '86, and two Silver Sluggers, in '81 and '83. Fernando kindly signed and returned my card in sixteen days. Thanks Mr. Valenzuela!
