O'Brien had an incredibly respectable career, lasting fifteen seasons as a Major League catcher. Drafted in the fifth round of the 1982 draft out of Wichita State by the Oakland A's, O'Brien would reach the Majors on June 2, 1985. Won a World Series ring as Javy Lopez's back-up on the 1995 Atlanta Braves squad; he even smashed a homerun in the ALCS against the Cincinatti Reds. Was in a package of players traded for Moose Haas.
