Obtained: Purchased from eBay; received October, 2006.
Son of former Cardinal Ed Olivares, Omar was signed as a free agent in 1986 by the San Diego Padres. Saw moderate success over his twelve year career, primarily as a starter, and mostly on losing teams. Split time between eight different teams with a 77-86 career mark over 229 starts, including a 15 win season in 1999 with the Angels and Athletics, where he thrived with a second-half 7-2 surge. Omar was also one of the better hitting pitchers, belting five homeruns with a .240 average in 242 career at-bats.
