Toby was taken in the 27th round of the 1987 draft by the Philadelphia Phillies. He would make his Major League debut on May 27, 1994 at age 25, pitching 1/3 of an inning against the Houston Astros. Toby pitched as a reliever for nine seasons over five teams, notching a career high seven wins in 1996.
